Blog #4: Museum Of Moving Image
This weekend I was able to go on a self guided tour through the famous Museum of Moving Image, and by far I can honestly say this was my favorite museum I’ve been to thus far. I felt right at home the moment we stepped into the first floor, you could see masks and portrait photography shots of famous familiar faces throughout each wall. I was a kid in aw getting the opportunity to see such iconic and memorable artifacts. They had notes from actors and actresses instructing either their makeup artist to create their looks in specific ways, to even the makeup they used while filming Sex & The City 2. ( I Totally fangirled at that moment. ) They had costumes to miniature film sets and even old school action figures of old school television and movie shows. They had an exhibit that included the work of Jim Henson and his impact in television culture, it displayed sketches and starting points that helped him develop one of the most iconic teams on television being The Muppets and also some experimental pieces he created as well called the Cyclia. While all that was great, what i really enjoyed ironically was the floor on film history on the second floor. Once I arrived they had models of the Zeotrope and thaumatrope which was pretty cool to see and be able to play with not to mention being able to explain that I knew what it was before looking at it to my boyfriend. They had computers that let you do pre or post production animations as well as having a photobooth which we just had to do. They had a various recording cameras throughout the years starting as early as 1908 to this century as well as the different forms of lighting used throughout production. My personal favorite second was the audio and music exhibition and demonstration mostly because they were interactive as well as informative. I learned about automated dialogue replacement which is something that I've always been curious how they insert lines in even after the production has been completed. We memorized lines and re recorded them with our voices which was super cool as well as adding foley and music to certain scenes which just gave great inspiration on how to pick and choose what fits and sounds best. Live Editing is something i found extremely intriguing since i do watch A LOT of sports mostly baseball but always wanted to know how and who pick and chooses what scenes are shown and we were able to have a live look in on a Mets game and see the director calling our camera 4, camera 6, etc. Overall I had a great experience at the movie and picked up some books in the bookstore as well as our video flipbook to end the trip with great memories, will definitely like to go back once more things are added in again.
